Frequently Asked Questions
You don't need to have all the answers before reaching out.
Every family's journey is different, and it's natural to have questions before deciding whether support is right for you.
Here are some of the questions I'm most often asked. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, please get in touch. I'm always happy to help.
Questions relating to 'Getting Started'
How do I know which support is right for me?
You don't need to decide before getting in touch.
The best place to start is with a Free Discovery Call. We'll talk about what's happening for your child and your family, explore your concerns and discuss which level of support, if any, would be most helpful.
There is no obligation to book a paid service.
What happens during a Discovery Call?
The Discovery Call is a relaxed, 20-minute online conversation.
It's an opportunity for you to share what's happening, ask questions and find out how Pathways may be able to help. Together, we'll explore your situation and discuss the most appropriate next step for your family.
Many parents tell me they already feel more reassured simply by having the opportunity to talk things through.
How do I book an appointment?
The easiest way to get started is by booking a Free Discovery Call through the website.
If you'd prefer, you're also welcome to get in touch by email if you have any questions before booking.
Questions relating to 'Support & Services'
Do I need an EHCP before working with you?
No. Many families contact me before an EHCP has even been considered. Others are preparing to request an assessment, navigating the application process or reviewing an existing plan.
Support is always tailored to where you are in your journey.
Can you attend school meetings with me?
Yes, where appropriate.
I can support families before, during or after meetings with schools, local authorities and other professionals. Every situation is different, so meeting support is tailored to your individual needs.
Will you tell me what I should do?
No. My role isn't to make decisions for your family.
Instead, I'll help you understand your options, explore the possible pathways and make informed decisions that feel right for your child and your family's circumstances.
Do you work directly with schools?
Yes, where appropriate and always with your agreement.
My primary role is to support parents, but this may include liaising with schools, helping you prepare for meetings or attending discussions alongside you when this forms part of the support you've chosen.
I believe positive relationships and collaborative working often lead to the best outcomes for children.
Questions relating to 'Practical Information'
Are sessions online or in person?
Most consultations take place online, allowing me to support families across the UK.
Where appropriate, face-to-face support may also be available. If you're looking for an in-person appointment, please get in touch and we can discuss the options.
Can you support families outside Buckinghamshire?
Absolutely. Although I'm based in Buckinghamshire, most of my work is delivered online, meaning I can support families throughout the UK.
While local authority processes may differ, the principles of supporting parents and navigating educational decisions remain the same.
What information should I send before a session?
If you've booked a Parent Clarity Session or Family Navigation Package, I'll let you know if it would be helpful to review any documents beforehand.
This might include school reports, EHCP paperwork, Educational Psychology reports or correspondence with professionals.
There's no need to send anything unless it's relevant to the support you've booked.
How does payment work?
Parent Clarity Sessions and standalone services are payable in full when you book.
For the Family Navigation Package, a 50% deposit is required before support begins, with the remaining balance payable midway through the support period.
Payment is made securely by BACS transfer.
What if I need to cancel?
I understand that family life can be unpredictable.
If you need to reschedule, I simply ask for at least 48 hours' notice wherever possible. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged in full.
